Use Your Wise Mind
The ability to optimally draw upon the talents of both hemispheres of the brain is referred to as the ‘wise mind.’ In her excellent book, Awakening Intuition, Mona Lisa Schulz, M.D., Ph.D.—a neuropsychiatrist, neuroscientist, and medical intuitive—points out that wise mind is actually a great reminder of why we need a balanced blend of both the rational mind (left brain) and the intuitive, emotional mind (right brain): “True geniuses have a more fluid partnership between the two hemispheres than most people, a greater ability to switch rapidly and smoothly between the two.”

Peter Senge, author of the classic management book, The Fifth Discipline, also confirms  that we’re mistaken if we see rational thinking and intuition as opposites and that the integration of reason and intuition is a sign of personal mastery. So your objective isn’t to choose one type of thinking or processing over another, it’s to embrace and integrate both, knowing when to emphasize your intuitive channels of knowing and when to rely on your mental channel of knowing.

By blending the strengths of both the left and right hemispheres of your brain—developing your wise mind—you are able to tap into and experience the clarity and peace that comes with an aha! moment and confidently move forward in your business, knowing you’ve made the optimal decision.

To begin to access your wise mind, deliberately ask yourself what your rational, logical mind has to say about a challenge you’re facing, then switch your focus to your emotions and intuition. Give both sides conscious attention and incorporate the wisdom of both into your final decision. Look for more ideas for accessing your inner wisdom over the next three weeks. Which Choice Will You Make – Traditional College or Technical Certification?

WHICH CHOICE WILL YOU MAKE – TRADITIONAL COLLEGE OR TECHNICAL CERTIFICATION?

College can be both challenging and exciting, and transition into the corporate workplace can turn into outright stress and anxiety.  For those considering a career in the technology industry, this article will help with the daunting choice of whether to select a traditional degree program or a certification option.
No matter the industry, the degree to which people know their field directly reflects their abilities to succeed.    Therefore, it is critical to understand exactly what fits with your skills, attributes, work and learning style.  A traditional college degree program is an option for a well-rounded education.  However, a certification program demonstrates a competency specifically in one’s chosen industry, so if your desire is to demonstrate a commitment to a specific focus (i.e., networks, desktop, security, etc), then certification programs should be considered.
Research shows that college does not adequately prepare students for an effective transition from student to professional.  College prepares individuals for certain aspects of the corporate workplace, but there remains a tremendous amount of learning that is not being taught in our colleges.  So if you decide to go the traditional college educational route, there are still aspects of your education that will need to be supplemented.

In the IT industry, there are many options for higher education.  Traditional college programs have expanded more to offer combined degree/certification programs that focus directly on your desired branch of IT.  Microsoft offers a wide variety of certification programs for PC, desktop, and operating system careers.  Cisco offers a variety of certification programs for careers in Wide and Local Area networking.  There are also Microsoft certification programs for interest of desktop security careers.  If there is interest in the voice and telecommunications field of study, both Nortel and Cisco have outstanding certification programs.

There are other IT areas of interest which include application design, e-commerce, web design, and programming just to name a few.  But whatever your area of interest, there is an educational program to suit your individual needs.

Dream Along With Me – Goal Setting for Results Beyond Your Wildest Dreams!

Dream Along With Me
Goal setting for results beyond your wildest dreams!

What is a dream but a thought about what could be.  If you look around, what do you see? A building, coffee mug, piece of furniture, the city you live; they all started as someone’s dream.

Your favorite song started as someone’s dream.
The airplane started as someone’s dream.
Your business started as a dream.

You each have dreams for your life, your family, your business. Dreams of the person you can be and the difference you can make.  Contrary to what some say, dreaming is not just idle fantasy.  Dreaming is the beginning of all things. With clear intention and specific action, your dreams can come true.

So, as you sit down to create some fresh new goals….are you ready to dream?

Step 1. Clear the way.

Before you can get clear on what the year will bring, you may need to first clear some clutter out of the way.  I am not talking about cleaning out your closets or organizing the garage (although those are great ideas as well). What I am suggesting is that you first clear your head.

After speaking with thousands of people as a professional life coach, I can say with confidence that the #1 thing standing between you and your dreams is your own thinking about what you can’t do and why you cannot do it.  It’s time to clear the way for your dreams.

Action:  Let go of…

•    what you think you cannot have.
•    what you think you could never accomplish.
•    what others have told you, you could never be.

In fact…for right now, let it all go.  Yes EVERYTHING! (Ahhhh, it gets nice and quiet when you clear out all that mental chatter.)

Now you have that great big space to create in, let’s fill it up with your dreams

Step 2. Ready. Set. Dream!

Whatever you are moved and inspired to create in your life, those desires are there for a reason. Following your dreams is the path to joy and fulfillment.  So let’s get dreaming!

Action:  Answer the following questions in detail:

•    If anything were possible for you and your life ….what would you want?
•    Who would you have around you?
•    What would you see out your window?
•    What would you create with your business?
•    How would you spend your days?

Write it all down and fill in every detail.  Keep working it until you can read what you wrote and it puts a great big smile on your face.

Once you have created this masterpiece, give it the place of honor it deserves.  Put it somewhere that will demand your attention.  Put it on your bathroom mirror, the door to your office, on the front of your “personal development” binder.  Not a day should go by when you are not reminded of what you have chosen to create. (Need a little inspiration? For examples of other visions visit  www.coachjoelle.com/dreambuilder.html .)

Step 3. The path to your dreams is paved with action:

Action is the key to taking your dreams out of the clouds and rooting them firmly in reality.  Your actions do not have to be grandiose, scary or painful. They just need to move you forward.  In fact, the most effective actions are usually the ones that follow your interests, come naturally or feel fun to you.

Action:   Write down 3-5 things can you do this week to make your visions reality, put them in your calendar and do them!

•    Schedule 30 minutes every Monday to review your vision, celebrate the week’s accomplishments and set 3-5 new actions.
•    For the courageous: Call 1 person who you trust, who believes in your dreams and supports your success and tell them what you will be doing this week. I am not kidding. Go ahead. Make the call now.

Make Your Dreams Reality

Know that you were never given a dream without the ability to fulfill it.  In the months ahead, keep your vision close.  Keep taking action and surround yourself with people that support you and believe in your dreams.

Enjoy the ride!
