Take Your Body’s Advice
In a tele-class on how to use the power of visualization to achieve the success you desire, I offered ideas to help Anita create a compelling vision for a promotion to a newly created position in her company. Over the phone, I could hear her taking down notes and felt her concentration.
At one point, I felt inspired to offer a completely different idea about envisioning herself sitting down with her new boss, ninety days after starting her new position. Anita would imagine herself hearing words of praise for the wonderful job she was doing, visually seeing the confirmation that she was off to a fast start. This visualization would not show it, but would obviously convey that she had won the job and she had the skills to excel at the job.
Anita stopped writing, laughed and said, “That’s great! It wasn’t at all where I thought you were going with your idea, but I love it. I felt chills up and down my spine, and knew—from the workshop on intuition I took with you—that I needed to pay attention when I felt those chills.”
Anita was not cold, so there was no physical reason she should have chills running up and down her spine. For her, those chills signaled that she had ‘hit’ upon the visualization idea that was best for her.
Trust what your body is telling you. If you’re not sure that the signal your body sent was truly an intuitive or aha! experience, then have a second choice that you explore simultaneously until you get a clear signal. Or, in a situation you face, find a way to slowly move down the path your “goosebumps, butterflies in your stomach, or chills up and down your spine” told you to take, while creating a back-up plan in case you mis-read your body’s wisdom.
